If you want to keep your pet healthy and ensure that it thrives and is always full of energy, feed it a healthy diet. Opting for natural foods is a better option than feeding it commercially prepared foodstuff. A healthy diet will result in brighter eyes and a glossy coat for your dog within sometime. The aim of most raw food diet for dogs recipes is to come up with a protein rich diet that a dog would naturally eat if it was in the wild.

Do not give your dog too much foodstuff or too little food. If you feed it to much it will become obese. On the other hand, if you underfeed it, it may become weak and skinny. To know how much foodstuff is enough for your dog measure its weight then ensure not to give it foodstuff that weighs more than three percent of its body weight. For puppies, the weight of the foodstuff should not exceed ten percent.

Ideally, a dog should be fed two times a day. Try to have regular meal times. Allowing ample time between meal times helps in proper digestion. You can feed the dog once in the morning and once in the evening. Remember to avail drinking water for the dog.

Try and find fresh ingredients to use. This mostly includes different kinds of meats, both red meat and white meats. Organ meats and tripe are quite nutritious and should be added to the diet. You can freeze any extra meats for later use. Try and stick to one kind of meat for sometime, until the dog gets used to it. You can tell this by observing its poop. If the poop is small and firm, you can then add a second source of protein and proceed to add a third when the dog's poop is okay.

You may also consider feeding your dog some vegetables and fruits. However, this is not a must as the pets will thrive more on a protein rich diet. Even if you feed your pets vegetables and fruits, make sure that this is not a major part of their diet. To make the vegetables easier for your pets to digest, especially when it comes to puppies, steam the vegetables for a few minutes so as to soften them.

Avoid any foods that may be harmful to your dog. This includes any cooked bones, as this could splinter and puncture the intestines of your pet. If you feed the dog raw bones, closely monitor it as it eats to make sure that it doesn't choke, especially if it is a small dog.

To make the process of feeding your dog much more hassle free, buy the foods in advance and freeze them. Everyday, remove the required meal portions and serve your dog at the set meal times. Make an arrangement with your butcher to supply you with the meats on certain days.

Finding the right raw food diet for dogs recipes may take time. You may have to try out a number of foods before you find what works best for your dog. You can ask for nutritional advice from a vet who has specialized in canine nutrition.
