There are carpets that are just too big to fit in your washing machine, so you need to use a vacuum with a high suction. Be sure that you empty your vacuum once you are done with it. It is also a good idea to put the contents of the vacuum cleaner into a plastic bag to keep those little critters from getting back into your house. You may even want to add an extra bag and seal it tightly so that you are positive they are dead.

Another idea would be to hire someone to come in and professionally steam clean all of your carpets. The steam kills them all. Not everyone can afford to hire professionals to come into their homes and steam clean their floors. If you can't afford a professional you can do it on your own just use insecticidal soap. Just wash your rugs and carpets with the soap and your flea problem is gone.

Once you get rid of the fleas the best thing to do is take your pet to the vet to get flea pills. Most of these pills are not expensive and last up to three to four months. You may still want to vacuum quite often so that you do not get over run with them again. If you do not get the eggs and larva out then you will have the same problem all over again.

If your using a flea control on your pet and you vacuum the floors regularly then you shouldn't have flea problems again. Be sure to vacuum under the furniture and in all the places your pet like to lay. You can try flea killing items from the store but they usually contain harmful chemicals that are harmful to pets and children.

You don't have to get rid of your beloved pet to get rid of the pest they bring in. You just need to use the vacuum often, give your dog or cat flea preventative medication and use chemicals that will kill a flea on contact.
