How To Get Rid Of Fleas In Carpet For Good

By Amanda Baird

For anyone who want to know how to get rid of fleas in carpet there are a few things that need to be kept in mind. One is that if it is not done properly and thoroughly, they will return. Getting rid of fleas permanently is possible though when it is done right. By following a few simple steps you can get rid of these pests for good

You will want to start by thoroughly steaming all of your carpets and rugs. The high temperature of the steamer will kill most of them, as well as the larvae and eggs. Be sure to be very thorough with the cleaner because they can be hiding anywhere. Try to go over each room at least twice in order to get any that may have been missed the first time.

For the next part you will need a combination on borax and salt mixed in equal parts. These two ingredients dry out all the remaining bugs and their offspring and kill them. Spread the mixture over all the affected carpeting, and be sure to be generous with your distribution. Make sure that you get all the corners, along the edges of the walls.

Once the mixture has been sitting for long enough, roughly twelve hours or so, vacuum it all up. Once you are done this remember to through out the vacuum bag as there may still be some living in it. Be sure to get everywhere as well because you never know where they may be hiding.

This has to be done in every room of the house. The best way to do it is all at the same time since they will travel from room to room very quickly. Try to get it done just before bed so that the mixture can work its magic as you sleep. Then you can just clean it all up first thing in the morning and it will have little to no impact on your daily activities.

Don't let the dogs in the room when this is happening. Keep them secluded to one room while the others are being done and then do that room last or keep them outdoors if possible. The fleas will be attracted to your pets and try to escape the mixture by jumping back onto them

Also do all soft furniture where fleas may be hiding. If it can be put into the washing machine, do so on the highest heat possible. For certain items it may not be possible to clean them as well as you should, and for the sack of your home, should just be thrown out. For everything else, after they have been cleaned, cover them in the mixture of salt and borax as you have done with the carpeting.

After all the cleaning has been done you will want to give each of your pets a really good cleaning. There is no point in knowing how to get rid of fleas in carpet if they are just going to get more from the pets. Wash them with a good flea shampoo and take care of all the places where they like to hang out, inside and out, to be sure that they don't continue to spread.
