Standard Poodle Breeders Love Dogs

By Lora Jones

Most standard poodle breeders love dogs. This is what they do for a living. They are around dogs all the time and selling them should just be part of what they do not all of what they do. Try to find a reputable one in your area if you are interested in buying a puppy. They are usually sold around eights weeks of age. Ask what genders and colors they have.

Sadly, many breeders take the puppies away from their mother too soon. This is just because they will sell more that way. This is not good for the puppy as it deprives them of what they need which is nurturing and attention. Trust your gut instinct when you call around. You may have a good or bad feeling. It is usually right so trust it.

This breed is very intelligent. A lot of time and attention must be given to the puppy after you bring it home. Make sure you have that kind of time or it is unfair to the pup. Try not to get attached before you realize this. It is very hard to re-home once you are attached. Try to avoid getting into this predicament.

Ask the expert about pricing and if the pup is AKC quality. That usually means that both mother and father were AKC and this ensures that the pup has a good lineage behind them. This can help if you want to show them later in dog shows. You may also just want that quality for them in general because it is a good sign that they will be easy to train. The American Kennel Club ensures that.

Ask what the price is and make sure you can afford it. This will not be all you have to pay for. You will also have to buy dog food and get the dog immunized on a regular basis. They will also most likely have a contract that you will need to sign. Keep track of your records because it is like a receipt in case you have to prove that you paid for the dog at a later date for some reason.

Do not just settle for the first one that comes your way. Give it a lot of thought and attention. Pet stores and classified ads in newspapers and on the Internet are great resources for this. Word-of-mouth is also good. Search hard for the right dog for you. You need to find the right one as you will hopefully be spending a lot of quality together for years to come.

Involve your whole family in this adventure. Ask your children to look for the right one and call and ask questions, too. When you visit the breeder for the first time, ask your children if they can find the pup that bonds with them the most. This is very important because you will hopefully have them for many years to come.

Finding the right standard poodle breeders is not hard if you know where to look. Try not to travel too far away from your home if you can avoid it. This will help you save gas. If you must travel, however, it will be worth it for your new family member. Investing in this will be well worth it.
